Bay Shore In Triple Overtime !

In a game already full of incredible endings, freshman reserve Brandon Turner, who was in the game only because two Bay Shore starters had fouled out,  grabbed a missed shot and put it back in to give Bay Shore an astounding 107-105 win over St. Mary's in triple overtime.  St. Mary's had started the game pressing and trapping, and it worked well, rattling Bay Shore and leading to turnovers and easy baskets for the Gaels. They seemed to have things well in hand when Jerrell Lawrence scored from the low post to give them a 16 point lead early in the 2nd quarter. Bay Shore star Chris Obi was forcing things and he and his teammates couldn't get into a rhythm under the constant pressure. The Marauders started to settle down once they figured out how to beat the pressure, but couldn't cut into the lead and it was still 47-36 Mary's at the half. Bay Shore came out on fire to start the 2nd half. Booker Hucks drained back to back threes to cut the lead to 5, and we had ourselves a ball game! With 4:36 left in the 3rd, Bay Shore took its first lead on two foul shots by Ryun Hook. From that point forward it was back and forth the whole way. Lawrence scored 6 straight points late in the quarter to put St. Mary's back on top 59-56. Chris Obi closed out the quarter going coast to coast and it was 59-58 at the end of three. Bay Shore was already over the foul limit as the 4th quarter began, and Lawrence was back at the foul line to start the quarter and shooting the 1 and 1. He sank both shots and made it 61-58.  There were a number of ties and lead changes until St. Mary's went on a bit of a run. Jeffrey Mark's put back made it 70-64 and another basket by Jerrell Lawrence made it 72-64 with 4:45 left in regulation. Booker Hucks responded with a baseline drive to make it 72-66 and Obi nailed a 3 and it was 72-69. Obi then sliced across the lane and it was 72-71 with 3:30 remaining. Hucks knocked down a jumper from the right side giving Bay Shore the lead, but Lawrence countered with a putback and it was St. Mary's by 1 with 2:50 left on the clock. Bay Shore then went on a bit of a run of their own, with Obi's foul shot making it 80-76 Bay Shore with 1:14 left. Marcos Tamares came right back with a three and it was 80-79. St. Mary's was now over the foul limit, and Hucks went to the line twice in a 14 second span,  hitting all 4 shots in the 1 and 1 to put Bay Shore up 83-81 with 36 seconds remaining. A Byron Freeman foul shot cut it to 83-82 but a fast break layup by Ryan Hook and it was  85-82 Bay Shore with 13 seconds left in the game. At the 9 second mark, Freeman was fouled driving the lane and went to the line for two shots. He made both to bring Mary's within one, and then they intentionally fouled on the inbounds pass and sent Barry Ingram to the line for a 1 and 1 with 7 seconds on the clock. He missed the first shot but Jordan Allen incredibly grabbed the rebound and put it back in to put Bay Shore up by three with time running down. That set up the first incredible finish. St. Mary's inbounded the ball as the seconds ticked off the clock and Marcos Tamares launched a shot from half court that sailed through the air and right into the basket as the buzzer sounded! Game tied and going to overtime!  There was bedlam in the gym. Then in the first OT, St. Mary's was up by 1 with 10 seconds remaining and it was time for incredible finish number two. Scott Machado went to the line and hit two free throws to make it 95-92 St. Mary's. Bay Shore then inbounded the ball and Ingram brought it up court and penetrated towards the basket. He found Booker Hucks spotting up at the three point line and Hucks came through, rippling the nets and sending the game into double OT ! The Bay Shore fans were going wild now. In double OT, Hucks got things started, hitting another 3 from the same spot to put Bay Shore up by 3. The teams traded baskets and turnovers until Jerrell Lawrence tied it on a nice pass from Machado with 1:20 remaining. Neither team  would score again in the period and triple OT began with the score knotted at 100.  After a St. Mary's free throw, Chris Obi put Bay Shore ahead when he grabbed a rebound and scored, but he fell to the ground with a twisted ankle and had to come out of the game. Hucks had already fouled out, leaving Bay Shore without their two leading scorers. Scott Machado caught the defense napping and went coast to coast to put Mary's up by one. After a St. Mary's foul, Ingram went to the line and tied the game with his first shot but missed the second. It was 103 all with 1:03 remaining when Bay Shore got the ball back on a 5 second call. Obi limped back onto the court but missed a jumper and then Byron Freeman blew by him for a layup to put Mary's up by two. Orayne McEachron stepped up for the Marauders and slid through the lane to tie it at 105. Ingram pounced on a loose ball and it was Bay Shore ball with 38 seconds left. The Marauders chose to run down the clock and look for the last shot, but it was off target. Rebound by Bay Shore!  ....... Shot .....No! Another rebound Bay Shore! .......No again!  Turner now with the ball underneath ........He goes up .....He scores! Game over! Bay Shore 107, St. Mary's 105 ! If you were there, it's a game you won't soon forget! Obi finished with 33 points for Bay Shore while Hucks had 37 and 24 rebounds. Marcos Tamares led led St. Mary's with 26 and Jerrell Lawrence added 18 and Scott Machado 17.
