Nassau Hammers Suffolk

Nassau County finally broke through, hammering Suffolk County 94-75 to snap a seven game losing streak in the Coaches For a Cause Long Island All-Star Game. It looked like more of the same to start as Suffolk jumped ahead early, but Ben Dorman, Jamal White, and Billy Butler led a first half charge that carried Nassau to a commanding first half advantage. In fact, it might very well have been over by halftime, but Hanif Malloy and Kamil Parzych sparked a late run for Suffolk and the teams went into the locker room with Nassau's lead down to 12. Suffolk cut it to 5 only one minute into the second half on a Marcell Lattimore putback , but Dorman broke the run with a three pointer, and then Billy Butler scored on a fast break lay-up, stole the inbound pass and scored again and it was right back up to 12. Brandin Butler's fastbreak layup made it a 15 point game, and then Dorman hit a three pointer and it was an 18 point game with just under 11 minutes remaining, but Suffolk wasn't quite done yet. Parzych hit a three pointer at the nine minute mark that brought the lead back down to twelve. Dorman responded with a putback, but another three by Parzych and it was 73-62. Seven straight points though by Matt Cajuste - a dunk, a jump hook, a fast break layup and a free throw, and Nassau was back in command 80-63. Suffolk had one more run left, but after Rob Ptacek's putback made it 80-69 with 5:45 left, Dorman nailed a baseline jumper, hit one of two free throws, and then Butler scored on a putback and it was 85-69 with 2:44 left. Game over! Ben Dorman from Great Neck North led all scorers with 22 points and Jericho's Matt Cajuste added 14. For Suffolk, Kamil Parzych had 16, Hanif Malloy 15, and Marcell Lattimore 14.
